Hi! Thanks so much for making me a vid--I'm so excited about all these fandoms, and whichever one you pick, I’m really looking forward to a vid for any one of them. I thought I might open with some general notes. There’s nothing in any of these fandoms that I’m uncomfortable seeing in a vid, so no worries there. I like all kinds of music, and I really like song lyrics. Hmm. I can’t think of any general likes/dislikes when it comes to vids—I’ve enjoyed action-y vids, funny vids, sad ones, and just calm character introspections, so honestly, I’m sure to love whatever you come up with.

Now for fandom-specific notes:
EndeavourCollapse )

The Magnificent Seven (2016)Collapse )

Miss Fisher's Murder MysteriesCollapse )

Singin’ in the RainCollapse )

Spy (2015)Collapse )

Willow (1988)Collapse )

I hope at least some of this is helpful. Whatever you make, I’m sure I’ll enjoy, and I hope you have fun making it.
Best,

Hi, author! Thanks for writing for me this year! I’m always super excited about Yuletide, and I’m psyched to be matched with someone else who enjoys one or more of these fandoms. Though I never know what to write in these letters that would be helpful, hopefully something here will give you an idea of the kind of stuff I might enjoy. I’ll talk a bit about my general likes and dislikes and a few more fandom-specific things, which I hope is helpful.

My likes include include AUs and fusions of all kinds, happy endings, found families, moments of discovery or revelation, important conversations between characters, and first meetings. I love exploring relationships where both parties really like each other, and where both parties have interesting lives of their own. Fandom clichés are fine by me, as is literally any amount of sex in a story, from no sex or romance whatsoever to the super explicit.

My dislikes include dark or angsty endings, character bashing, betrayal, graphic violence, non-con, incest, and infidelity. I’m okay with complicated relationships, but I don’t like stories where the main pairing doesn’t seem to like each other, or where one character is the ‘good’ one and one character the ‘bad’ one—it’s just not a dynamic that appeals to me.

When it comes to specific fandoms:

CarolCollapse )

PrideCollapse )

Luke CageCollapse )

While You Were SleepingCollapse )

I hope at least something in here is helpful to you. Thanks again for writing for me--I'm looking forward to seeing your story, and I hope you have fun writing it.

Best wishes,
Tam Cranver

Hi, author! First of all, thanks for writing for me this year--this is always something to look forward to every fall, and I’m really excited by the prospect of a story in any one of these fandoms. I never know what to say in these letters, but I thought I’d talk a bit about my general likes and dislikes and a few more fandom-specific things, which I hope is helpful.

Generally speaking, I like all kinds of pairings--slash, het, femslash, poly, whatever--and gen, and literally any amount of sex is fine, from no smut whatsoever up to the super explicit. I am a-okay with fandom clichés, so if you’re feeling like something super trope-tastic, I’ll read all the fake-married or coffee shop AUs ever. Things I love include AUs and fusions of all kinds, happy endings, found families, moments of discovery or revelation, important conversations between characters, and first meetings. My dislikes include dark or angsty endings, character bashing, betrayal, graphic violence, non-con, incest, and infidelity.

When it comes to specific fandoms:

Anyway, I hope at least something in here is helpful to you. Thanks again for writing for me--I'm looking forward to seeing your story, and I hope you have fun writing it.

Hi! Thanks so much for making me a vid--I'm really excited to see whatever you come up with. Sorry for my tardiness in getting this letter out; of course if you’ve already got an idea for your vid, feel free to disregard all this. I said most of what I wanted to say in my signups, but I'll try to add some details here, and I hope they'll be helpful. As a general note, I'm really not very picky about music, although if you decide to go for music in a language other than English, a translation of the lyrics would be great, since I really like song lyrics.

Hi, author! Thanks so much for writing something for me! I'm really excited about all these fandoms and the possibilities for them, so whichever way you end up going, I'm sure I'll love it. That said, I hope that some of the stuff in here about my likes, dislikes, etc. will be at least somewhat helpful.

Generally speaking, I like all kinds of pairings--slash, het, femslash, poly, whatever--and gen, and I'm okay with pretty much any level of sexual explicitness you feel like writing. I'm not so big on non-con or incest, or infidelity for that matter. I love AUs and fusions of all kinds, so just assume that if you have a wild Harry Potter AU or space AU or "what-if" idea, I will 100% go for it. Other likes include happy endings, found families, people being good to each other, fun dialogue, and people learning things about each other. My dislikes include dark or angsty endings, character bashing, betrayal, and, as previously mentioned, non-con and incest.

As far as specific fandoms go:

Miss Fisher's Murder MysteriesCollapse )

Reign of AssassinsCollapse )

EndeavourCollapse )

NikitaCollapse )

Sorry for the rambling--I hope at least some of this is helpful. At any rate, if none of these ideas speaks to you and you want to go off in a totally different, that's A-OK with me. I am super excited about all these fandoms, and if you're having fun with a story idea in any one of them, I'm sure it will be awesome. I'm really looking forward to seeing your story, and I hope you have a good time writing it.

Thanks again, and best wishes,

27th-Apr-2014 11:10 pm - MCU AU Fest letter
Hi, MCU-AU fest author!

First of all, I want to thank you for writing something for me, and to apologize for the lateness of this letter. Between the end of the school year and various family issues, it's been a wild couple of weeks. If you've already started on something or have a good idea, please feel free to ignore everything in here!

That said, I thought I'd lay some preferences/ideas out in the hopes that they will be helpful.

General likes include first meetings, people discovering things about each other, people being considerate to each other, happy endings, and humor. General dislikes include character bashing, dark or angsty endings, non-con, and infidelity. As far as sexual explicitness goes, literally any level from rated G hand-holding to straight-up porn is A-OK with me, and I like gen, too.

For more specific pairing notes, see below. I couldn't come up with useful thoughts about every AU scenario, but I did note the ideas I came up with for some of them.

Steve/SamCollapse )

Peggy/SteveCollapse )

Maria/NatashaCollapse )

You may have noticed that I didn't really come up with any scenarios for 'fantasy world' or 'space'--that is because just about anything set in a fantasy world or space or a fantasy world in space will make me super happy.

I hope at least some of this is helpful to you. I'm sorry again about the lateness of the letter and for the rambliness of my thoughts--I'm not great at articulating what I want in a story, but rest assured that regardless of what you've got planned, whether it fits with what I've said here or not, I'm really looking forward to reading it, and I really appreciate your writing something for me.

Best,

Hi! Thanks so much for making me a vid--this is my first year doing Festivids, and I'm really excited about it. I'm sorry for being so late about putting up a letter, but I've just had a really busy couple of months. I hope this can be helpful; if you've already started vidding or want to go in a completely different direction, that's cool with me! I said most of what I wanted to say in my signups, but I'll try to add some details here, and I hope they'll be helpful. In general, I enjoy all kinds of pairings--slash, het, femslash, poly, whatever--and gen, and I'm okay with pretty much any level of sexual explicitness you feel like writing. Dear Yuletide Author,

Hi! Sorry for the tardiness of the letter, but in a fairly in-character move for me, I put off signing up until the last possible moment. Procrastination is my besetting sin. At any rate, thank you so much for writing something for me. My letter from last year is here, in case more information on general likes and dislikes could be helpful. 7th-Jun-2012 03:00 pm - The Certain Stakes I Gained
Well, better late than never, I guess! Here's my Yuletide fic from this year, written for mamaesme.

Title: The Certain Stakes I Gained
Fandom: Nikita (2010 TV show)
Pairings: Nikita/Michael, maybe Nikita/Alex if you squint, but mostly gen.
Length: About 16,500 words.
Rating/Warnings: R
Summary: In which Nikita makes a deal, gains some leverage, buys some Christmas presents, and forms an army.
Notes: The title is from Edna St. Vincent Millay's Sonnet IX, from her Collected Sonnets. "Blast Hardcheese" is a reference from the "Space Mutiny" episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. I did not mark the "major character death" box in the warnings, but the violent death of one secondary character (and of one original character) is depicted, and another few are mentioned. Also mentioned are torture and sex slavery, though neither is depicted. Rating mostly for violence, language, and assorted references to all that murder and mayhem that Division get up to. This story will contain spoilers up to episode 2x10, "Guardians." I couldn't recall if they'd ever mentioned Nikita's birthday in the show, so I gave her Maggie Q's, May 22. I think that's all I've got by way of notes.

19th-Nov-2011 09:03 pm - Dear Yuletide Author
Hi, author! First of all, thanks so much for writing something for me. I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you write me--just the idea that someone would write a story just for me is really exciting enough. Hopefully I can offer some helpful insight into my own preferences and whatnot here.

Generally speaking, I like all sorts of pairings or lack thereof--gen, slash, het, femslash, polyamorous relationships, so don't feel like you have to tread carefully there. I'm not big on incest or non-con, I am big on deep platonic friendship. Here's something I said in my letter last year: "I like all the characters, so while critiques of character's behavior are sometimes real boons in a story, I'm not a fan of bashing just for the sake of tearing characters down." I can't think of a better way to word that this year, so I'll just copy and paste from last year's letter. I like AUs and crossovers, and--I don't know, this seems like perhaps too specific a narrative kink to include here, but whatever, I'll say it anyway--I like plots where one character discovers something about another that changes their relationship.

Now for the specific fandoms--

AlphasCollapse )
Captain AmericaCollapse )
Cowboys & AliensCollapse )
North and SouthCollapse )

Anyway, I feel like this has been super rambly, but I hope it was at least a little helpful. If you have an idea for one or more of these fandoms that really doesn't have anything to do with what I've written here, go for it--I really hope that writing this ends up being as fun as anticipating it is already.

Thanks again, and best wishes,

14th-Nov-2010 12:18 am - Dear Yuletide benefactor....
First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to do Yuletide this year and for whatever you end up writing, because I'm sure I'll love it.

I'm not super great at these kinds of requests, but hopefully I can offer something helpful here. One of the things this year seems to be putting the request from the sign-up form itself on here, which I actually am really glad some bright person thought of, because I think it'll help me remember just what it was I wanted.

My first request was for Raising Hope. Here's what I said: "I'd just really like to see something about Sabrina--where she sees her life going, her relationship with her family, her and Wyatt, her and Jimmy....just anything about Sabrina, really."

Hmm. I'm trying to think what I could add to that. I guess I'm just curious about Sabrina's life beyond what we see on the show--how'd she get the gig working at the grocery store? What's her and Wyatt's relationship like? I kind of got the impression from "Dream Hoarders" that she finds the suburban lifestyle crushingly boring and her dad isn't super supportive of her creative efforts, but...what's her suburban lifestyle like? Is writing something she really wants to do, or a hobby she's taken up just for a change of pace? How does she get along with her family? And what does she think about Jimmy and his family?

Don't feel like you have to answer all or any of those questions! I'm a rambler. But that's pretty much all I'm looking for--something about Sabrina. If you want to go the Wyatt/Sabrina or Jimmy/Sabrina routes, I would fully support you in either endeavor.

My second request was for Nikita, the 2010 TV show. I said, "I would like something about Nikita's history with Division and her relationships with the people there. I'm not picky about whether it actually takes place in the past or the present or what have you, I'm just a sucker for background. I'm especially interested in the dynamic between her and Birkhoff and Michael, espcially since recently, Birkhoff and Michael have been talking about her with each other. She and Michael obviously have a complicated relationship, and there seemed to be a lot of history behind that scene in the first episode where she's trying to get Birkhoff to join her."

Yeah, like I said, I'm really a sucker for backstory. Nikita's training and early missions, the development of her relationship with Michael, her family issues, how she got so goshdarned good at computers (and if that had anything to do with however the heck you'd characterize her relationship with Birkhoff)...I'd love any of that. If you're into the present storyline more than the past, that's cool, too--I love Alex and all the new generation, too, and I'm fascinated by Percy and Amanda's control of division. I'd just kind of like to see more of how Nikita's past is influencing what she does now.

My third request was for Main Noon Ha. I said, "I would like something about the Sharma family--Lucky's relationship with his mother, or Lucky and Ram developing a brotherly relationship, or how the family dynamic changes with Ram in the mix, something like that."

That pretty much sums it up! Throughout that whole movie, I was like, "Yes, yes, all this action and romance and 'terrorists dressing up as pretentious teachers' is very nice, but let's get back to the family angst. Secret brothers! Their father died without ever getting to reconcile with his wife and younger son! And Mrs. Sharma likes Ram so much, he's such a good son--until she realizes that he's her husband's illegitimate child! THIS IS SO SAD, BUT SO GOOD!" Before movie, during movie, after movie--I'm not picky. I just want Sharma family sagas. And if there is any kind of cheerful reconciliation and familial love in the end, I will not complain (/understatement). Just not incest-y love, please. It's kind of not my thing.

My fourth request was for Plunkett and Macleane. I said, "I'd like Jamie, Rebecca, and Will post-movie. In my perfect world, they'd all three be in a relationship together, but if that is not your thing and you'd prefer gen or a relationship between any two of them, go for it."

Plunkett, Macleane, and Gibson post-escape--are they off in America, living mostly respectable lives? Have Jamie and Rebecca, not yet warned off a life of adventure by the dangers they've faced, dragged Will across Europe in a crime spree? Is Rebecca enjoying life on the run, or does she find herself nostalgic for the days when life was a bit less adventuresome? Has Jamie gotten over that thing he does where he takes all the money and does ridiculously stupid things with it, or does he frequently incur Rebecca and Will's wrath over his gambling and whatnot? Does Will feel like a third wheel with the two upper-class (or kind of semi-upper-class, in Jamie's case) lovebirds, or does he fit in nicely, whether romantically or platonically? And does he have a chance to use his expertise with either weapons or making cures for venereal disease? Inquiring minds want to know!

All of which is to say, feel free to go in whatever direction you want post-movie--as long as it involves our titular heroes and Rebecca Gibson in some way, shape, or form, I will probably love it.

Generally speaking, I don't mind angst but I like my endings happy; I'm a big AU fan but also enjoy canon in all the fandoms I've picked; femslash, slash, het, gen, whatever, anything goes; I like all the characters, so while critiques of character's behavior are sometimes real boons in a story, I'm not a fan of bashing just for the sake of tearing characters down.

Um...I can't think of anything else, so I hope all this is helpful and not just a pain.

Thanks again and best wishes,
Tam Cranver
